How can we make bike paths more durable?

Bike paths are both narrow and thin, and sensitive to damage from, for example, heavy maintenance vehicles. Martin Larsson, a former doctoral student in our program, has investigated how our important bike paths are affected by maintenance vehicles, moisture, and the thickness of the base course and asphalt.

You can now read the results in a new article in the International Journal of Road Materials and Pavement Design, entitled Structural distress of cycle paths – the effect of heavy loading and groundwater table in full-scale testing.
