Safer bridge management through advanced 3D visualization

Bridge inspections are usually done manually, and many parts of a bridge can be difficult to access, often requiring expensive special equipment. Drones combined with machine learning and image analysis can facilitate both inspection work and damage assessment.

In this microlearning with our PhD student Juan Camilo Avendaño, you will learn more about photogrammetry — a method that makes it possible to reconstruct an object in a 3D space. For example, simple digital photographs can be converted into accurate, three-dimensional models of bridges.
Learn more about the general concepts and see how we use them to study bridges, streamline maintenance planning, identify hidden damage, and reduce on-site inspection time.
Ultimately, photogrammetry enables smarter and safer bridge management through accurate data and advanced visualization.
