1H Update of renewal needs and service life curves for water and wastewater pipelines

Background and Purpose
Asset management requires reliable data, among other things to enable planning of renewal measures that ensure functionality, minimize risks, and optimize resource use.
Strategic renewal planning is largely based on assumptions about the service life and deterioration of pipelines, where models are used to assess the probability of failure or remaining service life based on factors such as material, age, and environment, among others.
Today, many key assumptions are based on a survey from 2008, and no new national mapping of material distribution has been carried out since then. There is therefore a need for updated data. The project therefore has the following objectives:
- Collect current statistics regarding the material and age distribution of water and wastewater pipeline networks in Sweden
- Update the assumption of renewal needs for pipeline networks across Sweden
- Update the service life curves for pipeline materials used in the support files for Svenskt Vatten publication P116 on renewal planning of water and wastewater pipeline networks
- Update the distribution of material/age for different time periods and municipality sizes in the above-mentioned support files
Expected Results
The result will be an updated version of SVU Report 2011-13 Material- och åldersfördelning för Sveriges VA-nät och framtida förnyelsebehov, as well as updated support files for Svenskt Vatten publication P116 – Förnyelseplanering av VA-ledningsnät.
